Prism Music Collective is a group of lifelong learners who create space for people of all lived experiences to find joy and community in music making.

Our values

  • We believe that every person leads from where they are and has something valuable to share with everyone - whether that be musician wrangling, skills sharing, organizational coordination, or tasty provisions of food and drink.

  • We welcome people of all racial identities, genders, sexual orientations, wealth and class backgrounds, ages, abilities and disabilities, musical skills and experiences - if you want to make music, you belong here.

Why “radical”? We believe in a new/different model of inclusivity that goes beyond accessibility, that actively invites individuals to be their authentic selves, that focuses on the margins and recognizes intersectionalities, that practices intentional outreach and preemptively creates space for those not yet in our community.

  • We recognize the historical and ongoing exclusion carried out by gatekeepers of Western classical music, as well as the marginalization of other musical traditions. We are committed to fighting this by highlighting repertoire by women, people of color, and other underrepresented voices.

  • We prioritize our interpersonal relationships with each other over the end musical “product”. Our connections with and support of one another extend beyond rehearsal times.
